Alabama A&M University

Located in Normal, Alabama, Alabama Agricultural & Mechanical University (also referred to as AAMU or Alabama A&M University) is a public school. Historically, AAMU was a predominantly black university. It is also a member of the Thurgood Marshall College Fund. It has several academic programs that are recognized and ranked by U.S. News and World Report and is a fully accredited college.

AAMU offers over 40 bachelor’s degree programs, about 25 master’s programs, and 5 doctoral degree programs, as well as one EdS all within five undergraduate divisions. Undergraduate divisions at AAMU include: Arts & Sciences, Engineering & Technology, Education, Agricultural & Environmental and Business. For students with excellent academic records, AAMU offers an Honors program.

With nearly 350 faculty members across all programs, there is a very low student to professor ratio. In fact, there are less than 40 students per professor in more than 80 percent of classes offered at AAMU and the average student-to-faculty ration is only 20:1. The university attracts students from across the United States and throughout the world. Currently, the university is represented with student from 11 foreign countries and 44 U.S. states.

Degree awarded through A&M University include Bachelor of Arts (B.A.), Bachelor of Science (B.S.), Master of Science (M.S.), MBA, PhD., Med, BGS, BSCE, BSET, BSME, MEng, MSW and MURP. Through AAMU Online the university now offers an online undergraduate program in Business Management. It offers a limited number of courses that can be completed online. All online courses and the online business management are reserved for students who have already been accepted to the school's campus based program.

The university sponsors a plethora of clubs, organizations and activities designed to enrich the educational experience and lives of its students. A few of these include the social greek council, AAMU Gospel Choir, National Pan-Hellenic Council, Volumptuous Bulldog Beauties (a women's plus size organization), a dance team, Marching Maroon, business fraternity, women's music fraternity, poetry club, fashion club, and marketing club, among many others.

Alabama Agricultural and Mechanical University is regionally accredited to award bachelor’s, master's, doctoral and education specialist degrees by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools (SACS).
