Alabama State University

Established in 1867, Alabama State University (ASU) is located in Montgomery, Alabama. Although the university has a historically all-black student population, today the university is quite racially diverse. Alabama State’s population is made up of students from more than 20 countries and more than 40 U.S. states.

The university is comprised of eight degree granting academic schools and departments. These in include Continuing Education, Division of Aerospace Studies, and Colleges of Science, Math & Technology, Health Sciences, Business Administration, Education, Visual & Performing Arts, Liberal Arts & Social Sciences. Together these colleges offer over 50 degree programs for students to choose from. Alabama State offers more than 30 bachelor’s degrees, 10 master’s degrees, 2 EdS and 3 doctoral programs.

ASU offers a large selection organization and special interest clubs for students who want to get involved in school activities. Alabama State has upwards of 70 cultural, social and religious organizations. Opportunities to get involved with intercollegiate and/or intramural sports for both men and women are also available. Individual departments often offer their own clubs and organizations that students can get involved in. In addition, there are musical opportunities within the choir, symphony and marching bands as well at almost 10 fraternities/sororities. ASU belongs to the Thurgood Marshall College Fund (an American non-profit higher education organization) and is regionally accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools. It also holds professional accreditations from the Association of Collegiate Business Schools and Programs, the National Association of Schools of Music, the National Association of Teacher Education, the Commission of Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs, the Council for Social Work Education, the Accreditation Council for Occupational Therapy, the Commission on Accreditation for Health Informatics and Information Management Education, and the National Assocation of Schools of Theatre.

Alabama State University offers a limited number of online courses that are reserved for students who have already been accepted to the school's full-time campus program.
