DeVry University is currently under investigation by the state attorneys general of Illinois and Massachusetts, after a report filed by Senator Tom Harkin called into question the school's money management and student recruitment. Senator Harkin reports that earning an associate's degree at DeVry University's costs students 10 times more in tuition than an associate's degree from a community college, although the university spends only 1/4th of what the University of Illinois spends on its students--only $3,000 per student per year. Additionally, DeVry University pays its CEO an annual salary of $6.3 million, which is 46 times more than the salary paid to the University of Illinois' president. Senator Harkin also found evidence of deceptive student recruiting at DeVry University. These findings have resulted in a fair amount of controversy surrounding the institution.
