Florida's strong economy is due in large part to growth in several sectors, including healthcare research, biomedical and life sciences, tourism, banking, construction, simulation training, international trade and finance, commercial space travel, and aerospace and defense.

With a GDP of just over $750 billion, Florida has the fourth largest economy in the United States. It is also the fourth largest trade goods exporter. The largest economic sectors in Florida are agriculture, minining, financial services, transportation, trade, financial services, construction, manufacturing, and general services.

Per capita income in Florida is roughly $40,000 a year and minimum wage is just over $7 an hour (adjusted up each year for inflation). Like Texas, and a few other states, Florida does not have a personal income tax. While many of Florida's citizens flourish, over 2.5 million Floridians live beneath the national poverty level, many of those living in and around Miami (the 6th poorest city in the U.S.)
