George C. Wallace Community College
George C. Wallace Community College (commonly referred to as Wallace Community College, or WCC) is a two-year community college located in Dothan, Alabama. It is regionally accredited by the Commission on Colleges of the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools, and enrolls approximately 4,000 students. WCC operates three campuses: the Wallace Campus in Dothan, the Fort Rucker Center, and the Sparks Campus in Eufaula.The college has undergone several name changes over the years. Originally established in 1947 as the George C. Wallace State Technical Trade School, the college was subsequently known as the George C. Wallace State Vocational Trade School and later the George C. Wallace State Technical Junior College. In 1969, the institution was reorganized and became the first comprehensive community college in the southern region of Alabama, the George C. Wallace State Community College.
Wallace Community College is fully accredited to award Associate in Arts (AA), Associate in Science (AS) and Associate in Applied Science (AAS) degrees, as well as career, technical and professional certificates. Programs and courses are organized according to three subject areas which include Academic, Health Sciences and Career Technical. Specific areas of study at WCC include Fine Arts, Humanities, Natural Sciences, English, Mathematics and Computer Science, Behavioral Sciences, Nursing Emergency Medicine, Radiology, Physical Therapy Assisting, Automotive, Technology Masonry, Small Engine Repair, Welding, and Child Development, among many others.
In additional to a superb academic offering, the college also maintains various athletic teams. WCC athletics participate in the Southern Conference. Some of the more popular sports at WCC include men's baseball and women's softball.
