Samford University
Originally established as Howard College in 1841, Samford University is a private, co-ed college located in Homewood, Alabama. The college is affiliated with the Alabama Baptist Church and comprise eight academic colleges and schools. These include: McWhorter School of Pharmacy, Ida V. Moffett School of Nursing, Beeson Divinity School, Cumberland School of Law, Orlean Bullard Beeson School of Education, Brock School of Business, School of the Arts, and Howard College of Arts and Sciences. Each of these schools is headed by a dean. Samford has been ranked in the top 3 colleges among the U.S. Southern Region by U.S. News and World Report. It was by recognized by Kiplinger's Personal Finance and The Princeton Review for its exceptional value and academic programs.Samford's Brock School of Business was recognized by the United States Association of Small Business and Entrepreneurship (USASBE) for offering one of the top entrepreneurship programs in the nation. It was ranked number 3 in the South by U.S. News & World Report for it undergraduate teaching program. The university was ranked 22nd in the U.S. among graduate master's schools by the Institute of International Education for the number of undergraduate students it places in study abroad programs each year.
Although Samford has students from over 40 states as well as 18 countries, most students come from the Southern region of the United States. Almost 65% of all students at Samford University come from Alabama, Georgia and Tennessee. The university has a student to faculty ration of 1 to 12 and over 60% classes have 20 students fewer.
Samford offers 150 undergraduate majors and over 50 graduate degree programs, minors and specialties. The university is comprised of the Brock School of Business, Howard College of Arts and Science, School of the Arts, School of Health Professions and Public Health, Cumberland School of Law and Ida V. Moffett School of Nursing.
The Samford University Cumberland School of Law now provides online and distance learning programs accredited by the American Bar Association designed to supplement its traditional J.D. curriculum. The online courses are designed only as supplemental education for law students we are periodically away from campus due to clerkships, internships and study abroad. For students unable to attend daytime classes, Samford offers bachelor's degree programs in Criminal Justice, Liberal Studies, Organizational Leadership and Youth Studies.
