Spring Hill College
Spring Hill College is a private liberal arts college operated by the Jesuit Roman Catholic Church. It is located in Mobile, Alabama in the Spring Hill neighborhood. It is the fifth oldest Roman Catholic college in the nation and it was the first Catholic college to be established in the Southern United States. It is one of 28 higher education institutions that belong to the Association of Jesuit Colleges and Universities and is regionally accredited the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools (SACS). Of the colleges in the South that offer bachelor's and master's degree, Spring Hill College is ranked among the top 15 by U.S. News & World Report.Students seeking their bachelor’s degrees may select their majors/minors from one of the following departments: Division of Communications/Arts, Interdivisional Studies, Division of Business, Nursing, Theology, Sciences, Social Sciences, Language & Literature, Philosophy, Teacher Education or one of the Pre-Professional divisions.
Those pursuing a Master's degree can pursue study in one of the following academic departments: Science in Nursing, Pastoral Studies, Liberal Arts, Business Administration, Theological Studies, or Theology. In the areas of ministry and theology, students may also choose to receive a certificate of completion.
With an annual student body just over 1,400, Spring Hill College is relatively small compared to other national colleges and universities. About 80% of students live on campus, 70% come from outside the state of Alabama, the average class size is 17, and the college has a very attractive student-to-faculty rate of just 13 students to 1 professor. About 90% of professors have a doctorate degree and about 30% of graduating students go on to attend graduate school.
Graduate programs at Spring Hill College include an MBA program, as well as masters programs in nursing, teacher education, theological studies, pastoral studies, liberals arts and theology. Theology programs sponsored by Spring Hill College can be completed at the institutions main campus in Mobile as well as satellite campuses in Birmingham, Atlanta and Jackson. The college also offers an online degree program in nursing. While the online degree program isn't entirely online, nursing student can complete several the requisite courses remotely via the internet.
