University of Massachusetts at Lowell
The University of Massachusetts Lowell (UML or UMass Lowell) is a public research university in Lowell, Massachusetts. It is the second largest public university in the state of Massachusetts, enrolling roughly 17,000 students and employing over 1,100 faculty members.UML is organized into six academic colleges and schools: the College of Health Sciences, the College of Sciences, the Francis College of Engineering, the Manning School of Business, the Graduate School of Education, and the College of Fine Arts, Humanities, and Social Sciences. All together, UML offers 120 bachelor's, 39 master's, and 33 doctoral degree programs. UML's engineering, science, and technology programs have earned national recognition.
The University of Massachusetts Lowell offers several distinctive programs, including programs in new and emerging technologies (such as nanotechnology). UML offers programs in sound recording technology and meteorology, programs which are available at very few other institutions. It was also the first university in the country to offer a bachelor's program in plastics engineering. UML is the only public university in Massachusetts to offer a doctoral degree in physical therapy.
UML boasts some dynamic and unique facilities. The university is home to a radiation laboratory with a Van de Graaf accelerator and a research reactor. This laboratory offers students the rare opportunity to acquire hands-on experience in the realms of nuclear engineering, particle physics, and health physics. Additionally, UML has a baseball research center, which Major League Baseball uses as its official bat and ball testing center.
Each of UML's colleges offer diverse and relevant curriculum. The College of Health Sciences, for example, includes a School of Nursing and has received recognition for its clinical lab sciences and work environment. The Manning School of Business provides training in marketing, operations, financing, management information systems, and more. The College of Fine Arts, Humanities, and Social Sciences offers such distinctive programs as music business and sound recording technology.
The University of Massachusetts Lowell offers one of the largest selections of online degree programs and credit courses of any higher education institution in New England. At UMass, can pursue an accredited degree, complete a single course or earn a professional certificate entirely online. Online degrees are offered in various subject areas including psychology, information technology and liberal arts. Skill based online study programs are offered in paralegal studies, homeland security, technology and web development.
