University of West Alabama

The University of West Alabama, located in Livingston, Alabama was once known as Livingston Female Academy, a church-sponsored institution. Today it is a public, coeducational university that offers a diverse academic program and an student enrichment opportunities including activities, such as lectures, concerts, theater productions, commencement exercises, student clubs/organizations and athletic events.

The University of West Alabama has an average annual enrollment of about 4,900 students making it a mid-size university but one of the larger higher education institutions in Alabama. The university has a diverse student population represented by students from various races, background and religious denominations. While most students come from the surrounding areas, students from across the United States and several countries attend the University of West Alabama. About have of the students who attend the university are Caucasian and half are minorities. About 2% are international students.

A wide variety of degree programs are offered at associate, bachelor’s, master’s and specialist levels in a wide range of career-oriented disciplines. In all, more than 60 undergrad and 10 grad programs are are available for students to choose from. Degrees are awarded through one of the university's eight academic departments, which include the College of Business, College of Liberal Arts, Ira. D. Pruitt School of Nursing, School Graduate Studies, Julia Tutwiler College of Education, College of Natural Sciences and Mathematics, Division of Technology and Division of Online Programs.

The University of West Alabama provides various online degree and learning opportunities for working adults, students unable to attend a full-time campus-based college degree program, and traditional student who want to complement their campus-based learning with flexible online education options. Online degree programs are offered at the undergraduate and graduate level in business and education. Various career-oriented certificates can also be completed entirely online.

Athletics are an integral part of student life at the University of West Alabama. The school’s athletic teams are known the Tigers and compete in NCAA Division II. Sports offered at West Alabama include baseball, cross country, football, golf, soccer, tennis track, softball and basketball, among others.
