Rush University College of Nuring

The Rush University College of Nursing is a division of the Rush University Medical Center. The college consistently ranks among the top 5% of graduate nursing schools in the nation. Many of the programs at the College of Nursing at Rush also rank among the top 10 in the nation. The Rush College of Nursing is well-known for its vision and innovation and was one of the first colleges to provide a comprehensive nursing education program.

Because health care is increasingly complex and nurses have greater responsibilities, the College of Nursing at Rush decided to end the Bachelor of Science in Nursing program in 2009. Instead they now offer a Generalist Entry Master’s (or GEM) program. Currently, there are two schools in Chicago that offer this program. Students who have earned a Bachelor’s degree in another field of study are eligible for the GEM program. The purpose of this program is to develop clinical leaders with a well-rounded nursing education with the capability of managing a team and can improve the patient care experience.

Research is an important aspect of the nursing programs at Rush University College of Nursing. Rush offers a health research environment, is dedicated to biomedical research designed to improve patient care, and (as an academic medical center) is committed to advanced medical knowledge and innovation through its research.
